[debate-l] International Debate Academy Slovenia 2006

Dear debate people,

I would just like to inform you about the organisation of the International
Debate Academy Ormoz, Slovenia that will take place from 17 to 24 November
2006.

September 15 was the application deadline. We got over 130 applications from
more than 20 countries what is the biggest number of applications we have
received since we started to organise that event in 2004. Unfortunately only
about 60 participants will be able to participate due to the lack of place
in the hotel chosen and, more importantly, due to our *lack of financial
resources*. Unfortunately the majority of the costs will have to be covered
by participants themselves (participation fee is 190 Euros).

Each year we try to make the best out of it, that's why we do each year some
changes based on our experiences. This year we decided upon 2 most important
changes:
- to have even more debates;
- shorter lectures with more with smaller topics so we can focus more;

What we do the same and we see is a good thing to do: divide participants
into 3 groups according to debate experience since they have very different
level of debate knowledge/experience and than in the tournament at the end
of the Academy enable all to learn from each other.

The topic of the Academy will be *the relations among the EU institutions,
role of the EU in the world and the relation of the EU with other player in
international arena*, especially the USA. We we also make a list of possible
motion that might be debated at the Academy and provide all the participants
with the research package.
