Attention All Accredited IDEA Trainers- IDEA is looking for developers of
on-line course in debate and argumentation.
IDEA would like to provide its members with an opportunity to gain knowledge
and improve their skills in debate, argumentation and related areas
(communications, advocacy, deliberative education debate across
curriculum, etc.) through participation in IDEA on-line courses. IDEA would
like to offer the first set of courses in 2007.
On-line course model
Lecturer will be requested to offer courses based in the following model
which should include: course materials (including exercises for the
participants - in an electronic format), interaction between the
lecturer/course leader and participants (through chat rooms, e-mails,
listservs, discussion boards, etc.), assignments and/or final exam for the
participants. The duration of the course should be between 4-8 weeks,
depending on the content area. The courses should consist of lectures, each
of which takes about week to complete. Each lecture should include a lecture
text, online activities such as self-assessment quizzes, discussion forums,
and further resources, all provided through an online classroom. Following a
weekly cycle, participants should read the lecture text, adding and
responding to questions, comments and references in the form of hypertext
annotations and links. At the end of the weekly cycle, participants and
lecturers should meet online in a chat room to discuss the lecture text and
other resources. Participants will be expected to complete one or two
assignments based on course materials. While the lecturers will be expected
to provide the content and interact with students, the technical components
of the course will be developed by IDEA technical staff. Responsibilities of
the course leader/lecturer
The course leader/lecturer will be responsible for the following:
1. Development of course materials and research of materials suitable
for the course available in public domain
2. Communication with IDEA IT expert prior to and during the course
(course leader/lecturer will not be responsible for the technical aspects of
the course)
3. On-line interaction with the participants of the course according to
the presented strategy and technical specifications
4. Preparation and assessment of course assignment (s) and/or exam
The expected time commitment from the course-leader/ lecturer during the
course is between: 8-12 hrs per week.
Application process
IDEA accredited trainers interested in providing on-line courses are invited
to submit written applications by 1st October 2006 to mzaleski at idebate.org.
The application should contain the following information:
1. Short description of the course containing: objectives, target
audience, list of course materials, list of activities to be undertaken as
part of the course (including types of assignment and exam).
2. Time-line (please note that IDEA would like to launch its courses
starting in the 1st quarter 2007).
3. Lectures updated CV
Procedures
Successful applicants will be requested to submit the course materials in an
electronic format by the 31st December 2006. The course will then be
advertised by IDEA. Subject to the interest of potential course
participants, the course will be ready to be offered during the time
proposed by the course/leaders (please note that IDEA may want to negotiate
the period in which the course will be offered subject to other courses or
marketing considerations).
