[debate-l] Topics for IDEA Youth Forum 2007

Hello everyone, 


 I am pleased to announce this year's topics  for the IDEA Youth Forum. This year;s Forum had undergone a series of changes,  and the structure of the topics + rounds debated is one of them.  

 1. The first tournament, IDEA Karl Popper  Debate Championships will accommodate two prepared topics and three limited preparation debate topics (announced at the  Forum, 30 minutes prior to the round) in the area of water. The prepared topics  are:
  
  Prepared topic 1: "Dams be  damned"
  
  Prepared topic 2: ""Private management of  fresh water utilities is preferable to their public  management"  

  
 The topics will be debated as  follows:
  
 Round 1: Prepared topic 1
Round 2: Prepared  topic 1
Round 3: Limited preparation debates
Round 4: Limited preparation  debates
Round 5: Prepared topic 2
Round 6: Prepared topic  2
Quarterfinals: Prepared topic 1
Semifinals: Limited preparation  debates
Final round: Prepared topic 2
  
 2. The second tournament, the IDEA Mixed Teams  Championships, will acidometer one prepared  topic and three limited preparation  debate topics (announced at the Forum, 30 minutes prior to the round) in the  area of freedom of expression. 
  
 Prepared topic: "Hate speech should be a crime"
  
 The topics will be debated as  follows:
  
 Round 1: Prepared topic
Round 2: Prepared  topic
Round 3: Limited preparation debates
Round 4: Limited preparation  debates
Round 5: Prepared topic
Round 6: Prepared topic
Quarters:  Prepared topic
Semis: Limited preparation debates
Finals: Prepared  topic
  
 The IDEA Forum website www.ideayouthforum.org contains  materials from last year's Forum regarding water. In addition, trainers will be  preparing articles for the upcoming Idebate discussing the two prepared topics.  I encourage everyone to visit the discussion boards and ask questions, offer  feedback or start discussing key aspects related to all these topics. There is a  special Forum under IDEA Events > Youth Forum 2007 > Topics Announced for  the Youth Forum 2007.
