Development Youth Prize

The Development Youth Prize is for pupils aged 16-18 in the 27 European Member States. The focus of the competition is Africa - Sustainable Development. There are three themes for entry: Climate Change, Water and Energy and Sustainable Tourism. Pupils can choose one of the themes or combine them. 

All contributions must include two parts: 

an artwork in the form of a poster or a multimedia presentation 
a short message accompanying the art work: this can be written in any of the 23 official EU languages. If the message is not in English, French or German, a translation into one of these languages must be provided. The message must not be longer than 100 characters. 

The prizes are: 
One winner, one runner-up, and the winner?s teacher will be invited to attend European Development Days in Brussels in mid November. This is a high-profile event that brings together key decision-makers and actors in the field of development cooperation. Students will have the chance to meet these people and exhibit their work. They will also be presented with a certificate at an awards ceremony. 
Trip to Africa: Winning students and their teachers will be invited to accompany the European Commissioner for Development to an African country. During a five-day all-expenses paid trip, they will have a unique opportunity to see some of the challenges facing Africa, and witness EU development cooperation at work in the field. 

Who can participate: 
The Development Youth Prize is open to schools in the 27 EU Member States. 
Pupils must be aged between 16 and 18 (inclusive) at the time of the deadline. 
All entries must be associated with a school or recognised youth organisation. 
There is a limit of one entry per pupil.

Entries can either be sent digitally using the same form, or sent by post to the European Schoolnet office in Brussels.

Deadline: 31 March 2008
Please post entries at least 2-3 weeks before the deadline to be sure it will arrive in Brussels before the deadline.
