November 10th - 13th at Beijing Foreign Studies University
IDEA will be hosting a first-ever international university debate tournament in Beijing, China. This tournament will be held according to the rules of the 4-team parliamentary debate (WUDC style) format. All international university students are welcome to register, either as a team or as an individual. Up to 4 teams will be guaranteed for each university. All others will be placed on a waitlist and admitted on a first come first serve basis.
Additionally, this tournament will be an official The People Speak event, and all participants will be able to obtain IDEA Guilders (TPS credit), which can be redeemed for fee waivers at upcoming IDEA events and other great prizes. For more information about the motions, which will be drawn from the TPS topics, please visit our TPS website (http://www.idebate.org/thepeoplespeak/).
Registration is FREE. Participants will be responsible only for their travel and living costs. Lodging on campus will be available to participants for a small cost starting at $12 per night for basic dorm housing. Meals can also be purchased at the campus cafeteria for $2 on average.
Training sessions will be available immediately before and after the tournament for interested students. Free debating and judging workshops taught by internationally accredited IDEA trainers will help you to become a better adjucator or parliamentary debater. Upon successful completion of the training sessions, qualified judges may also apply for IDEA accreditation.
Besides the obvious debate and educational allures of this tournament, Beijing Foreign Studies University is also well situated in the city allowing participants the chance of a lifetime to tour the beautiful capital city of China. Beijing offers not only a modern look into the economically booming power of China, but also a historic look into its 3,000 years of culture and heritage. Tours of the Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, Temples of Heaven and Earth, and Tianmen Square can all be arranged.
So, register (http://www.idebate.org/events/index.php?event_id=76) now and join us for an amazing debate experience!
Please email Jeanne Chen at jchen at idebate.org if you have any questions concerning registration, travel or visas.
