Have FUN with MUN!

What is Model United Nations Conference (MUN)?

Here’s your chance to experience the inner-workings of the UN. MUN is a
simulation of the United Nations, with deliberations in the General Assembly
and the Security Council and work in the committee (drafting resolutions,
etc.). Representing various countries (assigned to students before the
conference), secondary school will participate in discussions and debates on
current world problems. Who knows? This may be the first step in a
possible career path. Or, it can simply be a great way to learn about
international relations, while picking up practical skills in public
speaking, negotiations, and cooperative problem solving.

The Tajikistan MUN conference provides you with many opportunities to debate
and discuss issues in an international setting – plus, you can meet new
people and make new friends!

Who is allowed to participate?

Secondary school students, aged 15-18, are invited to apply as two-person
teams, representing a country that will be assigned to them one month before
the conference, around the 27th of September. You need to apply by
September 20th!

There can be a few teams coming from one school or one debate clubs. An
adult supervisor (a teacher, debate coach, or parent) must accompany each
team. One adult supervisor may accompany more than one two-person team.

Since all sessions take place in English, participants must speak English.
There is a special educational track for adult supervisors as well, so
supervisors should also be able to speak English.

When will the Model United Nations Conference take place?

October 27th – 29th, 2006

Please plan your arrival on the 26th and departure on the 30th of October.

Apply to Marcin Zaleski at mzaleski at idebate.org by September 20th!

Where will the Model United Nations take place?

The capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe. The venue will be confirmed shortly.

Costs?

The conference itself is free. Plus, OSI Tajikistan and IDEA will provide
limited financial support for travel costs and accommodation. People
requiring financial support should contact Svetlana Batrak,
sbatrak at sorosny.org

Who Do I contact if I’m interested in participating?
If you would like to participate in the MUN Conference in Dushanbe, please
contact Marcin Zaleski at mzaleski at idebate.org by 20th September at the
latest. If you should have any questions regarding visas for Tajikistan,
please contact Zarrina Kadirova at z.kadirova at osi.tajik.net. We would like
to emphasise that the visa process for Tajikistan is complicated and if you
decide to come for the MUN conference, then we will require your prompt and
full cooperation in obtaining the required documents.
