Announcing Rob Layne as our Tournament Director
Rob Layne, Assistant Director of Forensics, Willamette University - Rob was an outstanding debater at Truman State University and a coach at Central Michigan University prior to coming to Willamette. This year he coached the Willamette Team to First Place in the National Tournament Sweepstakes Award as well as the Season Sweepstakes award. He was named as the American Forensic Association "Outstanding New Coach of the Year" for 2005-06. This award is given for a person in their first five years of coaching who is considered to be the outstanding coach in speech and debate.
Announcing Sharon Portor as our Illustrious Adjudication Trainer
Sharon Porter received her Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. Sharon was hired by Northern Arizona University (NAU) in 1981 to be the Director of Forensics (competitive speech and debate) and later on as the Director/Dean of the School of Communication. She has also held the positions of being a member of the Board of Trustees and a member of the National Council of the National Individual Events Tournament, chair of the Council of Forensic Organizations, Vice President of the American Forensic Association, President of Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha and President of the National Parliamentary Debate Association. Sharon was active in tournament administration and worked in the tabulation rooms of the American Forensic Association-National Individual Events Tournament, the American Forensic Association-National Debate Tournament and the National Parliamentary Debate Association. Her contributions to the forensic community resulted in receiving a number awards including the Quintilian Award and two Distinguished Service Awards (from Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha and the American Forensic Association-National Individual Events Tournament).
Shortly after retirement from NAU in 2004 Sharon was asked to become a consultant for the International Debate Education Association (IDEA). Her primary responsibility with IDEA has been to design and implement accreditation standards to ensure quality control of IDEA-NL member NGO's and International Trainers. During the Romania Youth Forum she accepted the nomination to become a member of the Board of IDEA-NL, a position she will hold until elections in Prague in November.
