Hello everyone,
The registration for the IDEA Youth Forum 2007 in the Czech Republic is now open. In order to register for the Forum you will need several pieces of information:
1. the specific event you will be registering for. This year, the Forum offers a variety of events that participants can register for, so you need to select one when registering. A description of the options available is included at the end of this message.
2. personal data such as name, address, date of birth, etc.
3. debate specific information such as the name of your coach (if a debater) and experience level
4. travel details such as passport information, arrival and departure dates, whether you need an invitation letter/visa for the Czech Republic (visit www.ideayouthforum.org/ for the visa regime information).
5. payment method. Note that the Forum participation fee can be paid for with IDEA Guilders.
6. miscellaneous information such as dietary restrictions, T-shirt size, etc.
Please also note that every team (three debaters) must be accompanied by a coach (a person other than the three debaters who is capable of judging and coaching in English).Teams that do not bring a coach will need to pay an extra 300 euro fee per team.
The events available for this year's Forum are:
1. The IDEA Karl Popper Debate Championships
Duration: July 23, 2007 - July 27, 2007
Cost: 150 Euro
Participants will attend the first day of workshops and then compete in the IDEA Karl Popper Debate Championships.
2. The IDEA Mixed Team Forum
Duration: July 27, 2007 - August 5, 2007
Cost: 350 Euro
Participants will attend content sessions and the IDEA Mixed Teams Tournaments. The topic to be debated concerns freedom of expression.
3. The Newcomers track
Duration: July 23, 2007 - July 27, 2007
Cost: 150 Euro
Participants new to Karl Popper debate will learn the format and fundamental knowledge about debating, argumentation, case construction, effective use of evidence, flowing, delivery, etc. This track will run parallel to the IDEA KPDC. ELIGIBILITY: Debaters should not have been debating for more than one year in any debate format and for no more than six months in Karl Popper debate.
4. The capacity building track
Duration: July 27, 2007 - August 5, 2007
Cost: 350 Euro
Participants in this track will gain the skills and tools needed to strengthen their debate programs. This track will help experienced debaters transition into being coaches, judges, trainers or debate program developers.
The curriculum will cover topics such as: strategies for retaining debaters and coaches; training new debate formats; organizing and running workshops and tournaments; organizing and running public debates; designing debate inclusion programs and leadership training.
5. Full Forum - Standard Debate Tournaments
Duration: July 23, 2007 - August 5, 2007
Cost: 400 Euro
Participants attend content sessions, workshops and both tournaments (The IDEA Karl Popper Debate Championships and the IDEA Mixed Teams Tournament). This was the Forum offer for all participants in previous years.
6. Full Forum - Newcomers Track + Mixed Teams Forum
Duration: July 23, 2007 - August 5, 2007
Cost: 400 Euro
Participants attend the newcomers track for the first part of the Forum (a separate track where they will learn the format and fundamental knowledge about debating, argumentation, case construction, effective use of evidence, flowing, delivery, etc. - this track will run parallel to the IDEA KPDC).
For the second part of the Forum participants are part of mixed teams, attend content sessions and participate in the IDEA Mixed Teams Tournament with their mixed teams.
7. Full Forum - IDEA KPDC + Capacity Building Track
Duration: July 23, 2007 - August 5, 2007
Cost: 400 Euro
Participants attend the IDEA Karl Popper Debate Championships and then the Capacity Building track (participants in this track will gain the skills and tools needed to strengthen their debate programs. This track will help experienced debaters transition into being coaches, judges, trainers or debate program developers - the curriculum will cover topics such as: strategies for retaining debaters and coaches; training new debate formats; organizing and running workshops and tournaments; organizing and running public debates; designing debate inclusion programs and leadership training).
NOTE that you will be a high-school graduate by the time of the Youth Forum, you MUST register for this track. You will not be able to compete in the Mixed Teams Tournament.
